STATEMENT
The Perennial Sanctuary Exhibition is a post-nature approach to the monomyth of loss. In the ruins of an ancient cave temple, a sacred tree tells the tale of her beautiful land that falls apart and regrows. This virtual experience discloses 3 memories of her past - Remembrance, Repentance, and Resilience, featuring new media works by student artists from the Advanced Experimental 3D class and Digital Bodies Performed class at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
COMMENTS
I had the pleasure of working with an amazing team and two faculty advisors to create this joint-class, virtual exhibition on New Art City. Our proposal was accepted from the FVNMA (Film, Video, New Media, Animation) Department and received funding to support this exhibition. This project would not have been possible without my passionate, ambitious, and collaborative team members. I am so thankful to have worked with such a team.

While many museums and artists began virtual exhibitions during the pandemic, I noticed how they were replicating physical spaces with wooden floors and white walls. But I wondered, if there are tools available, and we have the means to create a space beyond physical limitations, why not redefine what a virtual exhibition can look like? Artworks shouldn't fit the space, but the space would fit the artworks! After researching each artist and their works, we created a virtual world that was befitting to the artworks. The artworks seemingly exists in a visually compelling world with its own narrative to create a more interactive experience. Future concepts I would love to pursue is building a video game exhibition in unity. Users interact with activities related to the artworks while looking through the exhibition. One day it will happen!
