CONCEPT

STATEMENT

The objective was to create a brand that fused the tenaciousness, technology, and controlled playfulness that represents my work.

The outcome was a dynamic branding system that uses P5 Java to create a generative logo system inspired by the Vesica Piscis created from intersecting the two Os in my name.

While this is a concept I did not pursue, I loved the process. Enjoy!

HIDDEN WITHIN THE VENN DIAGRAM

The Vesica Piscis is the overlapped shape created from two intersecting circles. It has a rich symbolic history as well as mathematical significance. The symbol is traced back to the Nordic people during early middle ages, Greece, Egypt, India and Africa. Regardless of its place of origin, the symbol generally represents harmony created from two worlds.

The Vesica Piscis can be created from my name in English and Korean. As a bicultural artist working between virtual and physical worlds, I was inspired by this symbol to express the duality of my work visually and internally.

GENERATIVE SYSTEM

Using hidden mathematics in the symbol, I created a system that can be used to generate logo marks and letterforms.

CODING SYSTEM

Using P5 Java, I created a code that would automatically generate different logo marks based on the system created. Furthermore, instead of plotting random line segments between every vector point, I included rectangles and curves.

GRID SYSTEM

Expanding the dynamic mark even further, I stacked all the countless iterations created from the code to discover it had created a grid system. I decided to use this as my grid for business cards, letterheads, website etc.
